Slut's Bush
Slut's Bush is an island, no longer existent, off the coast of Chatham, Massachusetts. Once a rocky, swampy island covered with low shrubs, berry bushes, and vines, it appeared on 17th century maps of Cape Cod.〔Nickerson, Warren Sears and Carpenter, Delores Bird. ''Early encounters--Native Americans and Europeans in New England''〕 as well as 18th century deeds of the area.〔http://capecodhistory.us/Pratt/Pratt161-180.htm〕〔The New England historical and genealogical register, Volume 18. http://books.google.com/books?id=TTkONJrQrtYC&pg=PA43&lpg=PA43〕 It may been a small portion of a larger island referred to as 'Ile Nawset' or Nauset Island.〔Livermore, Charles W. and Crosby, Leander. ''The ancient wreck: loss of the Sparrow-Hawk in 1626''〕 By 1864 it was described as under deep water, although stumps and roots could still be seen from a boat on a calm day.〔The New England historical and genealogical register, Volume 18. http://books.google.com/books?id=TTkONJrQrtYC&pg=PA43&lpg=PA43〕 == References ==
